The Breakfast Club
I have chosen a scene from the film 'The Breakfast Club', the scene includes a song called We Are Not Alone by Karla Devito. This is probably the most upbeat scene in the whole film and I would say that is because of the music. The scene starts with the characters sitting on the floor laughing with each other then suddenly the music starts with a drum, we then see each character beginning to dance to the song. The genre of the music is pop and it adds an element of humour to the scene because the dancing is quite fast and exaggerated. The song and the characters movement compliment each other because the lyrics and the upbeat instrumental shows us that the characters are happy and enjoying themselves.
Youth In Revolt
There is a scene in the film 'Youth In Revolt' that has a sound called When You Love Somebody by Fruit Bats. The scene begins with a conversation then as a two characters are saying goodbye to each other a piano is introduced which highlights the emotion within the scene, after that another beat begins which is building on the tension as a character walks out of the front door. He stays by the front door for a few seconds which allows the the volume of the music to increase, as an audience we feel like something is about to happen. As the character gets up and starts to run the music changes slightly and we can hear the lyrics to the song because there is no dialogue any more. I would say the genre of the song is a mixture pop and electronic which helps us to understand the tense atmosphere.
Remember Me
This particular scene I have chosen from the film 'Remember Me' is towards the end of the film, it is an extremely sad scene and it is based on a true story therefore the soundtrack needed to capture the emotion. Firstly we see the main character looking out of a window whilst we hear the almost classical music begin, it has a slow tempo and it is very quiet, the music fades out which allows the audience to hear the background noise then as the scene goes black the music begins again and starts to get louder and more instruments are involved, this creates more tension as the audience begin to realise what is happening in the scene. After this there is a voice over however the music remains the same, there are then more background noises so there are a lot more sounds in the clip which is making the scene seem
After looking at each scene I now know the importance of genre and type of music, for example if the scene is representing something happy or exciting I will need to use upbeat and fast music to create the atmosphere. Also I think the amount of sound included in the clip such as the dialogue, music and background noise can alter the mood of the scene.
